Manchester United’s stop-start season has continued, with the club being knocked out of the FA Cup by Middlesbrough and then they dropped a couple of vital points in the Premier League against Burnley at Turf Moor in a 1-1 draw. Thus, it is safe to say that Ralf Rangnick’s side need to bounce back again, when they welcome Southampton to Old Trafford. And they have been handed a potential boost in that quest.

Southampton will come into this game riding on a high. They got a comeback 3-2 win against Tottenham Hotspur in midweek and hold a 1-1 draw against Manchester City recently as well.

While both those results may have helped Manchester United, this time around, they will be the ones looking to get a win against Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side and interestingly, the Red Devils have got some huge wins against The Saints over the past few years.

Amidst all this they have been handed a major boost as well. As reported by Manchester United’s official website, Alex Telles is back among the squad at Carrington, after being forced to isolate due to COVID-19.

Telles returns to Manchester United training in major boost

Telles joined Manchester United in the summer of 2020 but struggled to break into the first-team on a consistent basis, with Luke Shaw playing the best football of his career.

Shaw has not been nearly as consistent this season though and questions have been raised about his performances. As a result, Telles has gotten chances much more regularly over the past few months.

Thus, his return is a boost for Manchester United, as it increases the competition for the left-back spot while also giving Rangnick another option to pick his team from.

It will be interesting to see whether he ends up featuring against Southampton, in a game that the Red Devils need all three points.
