Manchester United are expected to be looking to strengthen their squad further in the upcoming summer transfer window, with a new manager in place, after another disappointing campaign. Hopes were high when the Red Devils signed Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Tom Heaton, but it is safe to say that results on the pitch have left a lot to be desired and they appear to be heading towards their fifth straight trophyless season.
As a result, it is natural that Manchester United have been linked with a number of players in recent times but it looks like they might end up facing competition from Liverpool to sign a trio of them.
As reported by Football Insider, Liverpool are keeping tabs on Leeds United trio Kalvin Phillips, Raphinha and Illan Meslier.
All three have impressed for Marcelo Bielsa’s side and it is not hard to see why Liverpool might be interested in signing them. But at the same time, all three of them have been linked with Manchester United in recent times as well.
Liverpool and Manchester United in race for Leeds United trio
Phillips has been an absolute standout in midfield for both Leeds United and the England national team in recent times. And it is no secret that Manchester United need to strengthen in the middle of the park as it is viewed as one of their weaknesses.
On the other hand, Raphinha is viewed as one of the best players in the Premier League right now, not playing for one of the Big Six. And other than Manchester United and Liverpool, Chelsea have also been linked with him.
And finally, Dean Henderson could end up leaving the club in the not too distant future and as a result, someone like Meslier could be a great signing for the Red Devils.
