When Manchester United signed Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund in one of the most expensive transfer moves in Premier League history, it was considered as a major coup on the part of the club. The English winger had been an absolute standout in Germany and looked destined to be one of the best players in the world in the future. Thus, it was almost a no-brainer for the Red Devils to bring him to Old Trafford.

It is safe to say that since then, things have not gone as one would have envisioned for Sancho, who has struggled to make his mark in English football.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 3 goals and has not been able to provide a single assist for Manchester United in 24 appearances across all competitions.

Thus, it goes without saying that he needs to improve a lot. On the other hand, Rio Ferdinand has pointed out what he believes has been a problem for Sancho at Manchester United. As reported by Metro, he told Vibe With FIVE:

"‘The game played to his strength, the passing and movement, some rhythm in the team.‘If there’s no rhythm Sancho is not as good and effective. That’s what his problem’s been.’"

While there is no hiding from the fact that Sancho has been nowhere near his best this season, one also has to admit that it has been the same case for most of Manchester United’s players going forward.

At the same time, one would have expected for him to take some time to adjust to the English game.

But now, as we move forward, he will slowly need to improve if he is to have a regular spot in Manchester United’s starting XI. There have been some positive signs to say the least and it is looking like he is starting to settle in now, and put in a good performance against Middlesbrough. And hopefully, there is a lot more to come from Sancho in the future.
