Manchester United have already been knocked out of both the League Cup and the FA Cup, and in early rounds of the competitions. They will be hoping that it is not the same case in the Champions League as well, where they have been able to make it into the knockout phase, and will now take on Atletico Madrid in the last 16, in what is going to be a tough tie for the Red Devils to say the least.
Atletico Madrid are the reigning champions of Spain but have not been enjoying a lot of success this time around.
As things stand, they are no longer even in the top four of the La Liga table. But at the same time, it would be a big mistake to count Diego Simeone’s men out when they take on Manchester United in the Champions League. They still have quality players and can beat any team in the world on their day.
Thus, Manchester United need to very careful but at the same time, confident of their chances going into the game. Their squad has undergone a bit of change going into the last 16 of the competition though.
Manchester United add duo to Champions League squad
As reported by Manchester Evening News, Amad, Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial have been removed from Manchester United’s Champions League squad for the season, having left on loan in January. Phil Jones and Lee Grant have been added to it though.
Jones has recently returned from a long-term injury which kept him out for almost two years. On the other hand, Grant is the fourth choice goalkeeper at Old Trafford right now.
Manchester United did not make a single signing in the January transfer window and as a result, there are no new players to add to their Champions League squad to take on Atletico Madrid.
