Manchester United came into this campaign hoping to challenge for the Premier League title and it goes without saying that things have not gone the way that they would have expected. At this point of time, they find themselves in a tough battle to even finish in the top four, are out of the League Cup and the FA Cup, and unless something unexpected happens, look set for their fifth straight trophyless campaign.

Thus, the situation is far from ideal at Old Trafford, with the club looking in need of another rebuild in the upcoming summer transfer window.

One player who could potentially be part of that is Barcelona centre-back, Ronald Araujo, who has been linked with Manchester United for quite some time now.

Xavi’s side are believed to be very keen on agreeing a new deal with Araujo but have not reached an extension yet. And as reported by SPORT, Manchester United and Chelsea can double Barcelona’s offers.

In what has been a very underwhelming season for Barcelona, Araujo has proven to be a standout in the heart of their defence.

And at 22 years of age, he looks one for the future. Araujo’s current deal with Barcelona runs out in the summer of 2023.

As a result, if the club are not able to agree a contract extension with him soon, they might be open to parting ways with Araujo in the summer as they must be keen to avoid a repeat of the Ousmane Dembele saga, who looks set to walk out as a free agent next summer.

Rumours have suggested that Araujo could leave for a transfer fee in the range of £30 million to £35 million in such a scenario and it remains to be seen if he ultimately ends up at Manchester United.
