Manchester United’s stop-start season continued after they were knocked out of the FA Cup in the fourth round itself by Middlesbrough. It means that the club have only the Premier League and the Champions League to play for in this campaign. And while never say never in football, it is starting to look like there is a huge possibility that the Red Devils are set to go trophyless for the fifth straight season.
The start against Middlesbrough had been fantastic for Manchester United and they completely dominated the first half and were a bit unlucky to go into the break just 1-0 up. In the second half, they conceded a controversial equaliser and that seemed to take the wind out of their sails a little bit.
Manchester United had chances to put the game away but just could not take them, with Cristiano Ronaldo missing a penalty kick and Bruno Fernandes failing to score into an almost open net.
Ultimately, Middlesbrough would win in the penalty shootout, with Anthony Elanga’s miss proving to be decisive.
Manchester United fans reveal who they want as next manager
Tom McDermott put out a poll recently on Twitter about who should be the next permanent Manchester United manager and the results were overwhelmingly in favour of Ajax’s Erik ten Hag:

Rangnick is only the interim manager of the club till the end of the season and unless things change drastically moving forward, it is hard to see him getting the job on a permanent basis.
What is surprising though is that not a lot of fans appear to want Mauricio Pochettino, who appears to be the favourite, in the Manchester United hot seat either. It must said that his run at Paris Saint-Germain has been disappointing till now.
On the other hand, Ten Hag has done a sensational job at Ajax and is one of the most exciting managers in Europe.
