Manchester United had an uncharacteristically quiet January transfer window, especially considering the fact that they find themselves in a race to finish in the top four of the Premier League. Instead, the club focused on sending those players out on loan who were struggling for playing time at Old Trafford. And it is not hard to see what the Red Devils’ strategy was last month.
Manchester United are expected to make a long-term managerial appointment in the summer with Ralf Rangnick only the interim manager till the end of the season, after which he is set to take a consultancy role at the club.
Thus, it feels like they are waiting for the new manager’s arrival before making any more significant additions and want to rebuild the squad in his vision.
But it also looks like they passed up the opportunity to sign some very highly-rated players in January. As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United were offered the chance to sign Boubacar Kamara, Denis Zakaria and Julian Alvarez but turned them down because of new manager plans in the summer.
Manchester United rejected chance to sign three players
Manchester United find themselves in a difficult position right now. Since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, the club have undergone one rebuild after the other but have never been able to get back to the top of English football.
Coming into this campaign, there were huge hopes that they would be able to do so. The club had finished second in the Premier League last season and had added superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane to that squad over the summer.
Unfortunately, things have not gone their way. Instead, they find themselves in a race to finish in the top four and appear to be facing another squad rebuild.
