Manchester United might not have made a single signing in January but it only suggests that the club are preparing for a big summer transfer window, when the Red Devils are also expected to bring in a new long-term manager and rebuild the squad keeping his vision in mind. Thus, it will be very interesting to see how things look next season, especially with players like Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Dean Henderson and others expected to leave.
One player that the club have been linked with in the past is AS Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo. While breaking into senior football, he was very highly-rated and enjoyed a couple of fantastic seasons for the Italian side.
He would go through some serious injury problems though and missed the entirety of the 2020/21 campaign. Zaniolo is now back fit and playing.
As reported by CalcioMercato, Manchester United have a strong interest in Zaniolo. But the likes of Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur are also being linked with the AS Roma star.
Manchester United have a strong interest in AS Roma’s Zaniolo
Zaniolo is now back in the first-team picture and doing quite well for Jose Mourinho’s side. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 4 goals and provided 5 assists in 26 appearances for AS Roma this season.
While he might not be back to the level of effectiveness that he had shown in the past, that is to be expected considering the magnitude of the injury problems that he has had to overcome.
Also, Zaniolo is still just 22 years of age and would be expected to get better moving forward, as he gets more experience under his belt.
Thus, signing someone like Zaniolo would be considered as a major coup on the part of Manchester United. His current deal with AS Roma is believed to run till the summer of 2024.
