Manchester United need to improve if they are to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season. While they might be sitting in 4th place right now, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have games in hand. But the Red Devils did not make a single addition to their squad in the January transfer window, instead focusing on sending out players on loan. Things could look very different in the summer though.
Ralf Rangnick is only the interim manager of the club till the end of the season after which they are expected to make a long-term appointment. And this surely might have played a big factor in them not making any signings in January.
Manchester United might be looking to build the squad in the vision of their next manager to give him the best chance to succeed at Old Trafford.
And they have been tipped to make a double signing in midfield in the summer. As reported by GiveMeSport, journalist Pete O’Rourke said:
"“I think they could maybe look to bring in two new midfielders in the summer.”"
Manchester United tipped to make double midfield signing in the summer
Midfield has been viewed as an area of weakness for Manchester United for a while now and they were expected to make an addition there last summer as well, but did not end up doing so. In hindsight, that might have been a mistake on their part.
The futures of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic appear to be up in the air. On the other hand, while Donny van de Beek might have been sent on loan to Everton, it will be interesting to see what his long-term future at Old Trafford is as well.
Thus, Manchester United might definitely need to make an addition or two in the middle of the park in the not too distant future. And hopefully they will end up doing so. Let’s see what happens.
