Manchester United decided to not make a single signing in the January transfer window despite being linked with several players over the past few weeks. Ralf Rangnick is only the interim manager of the club till the end of the season, after which he is set to take a consultancy role. On the other hand, the Red Devils are expected to make a long-term appointment in the summer.

And it does feel like that was a big factor in them not making any addition last month, as they might want to rebuild the squad in the vision of their new manager from next summer.

Boubacar Kamara is someone who they had been linked with heavily throughout the course of January.

And now it looks like they were handed the chance to sign him in the last days of the transfer window but decided to turn it down. As reported by The Sun, Fabrizio Romano said regarding the situation:

"“United were offered the opportunity to sign Boubacar Kamara in the last days of the window but they turned down this chance because they will invest more money for the new manager. They want to wait and see what’s best.”"

Manchester United turned down chance to sign Kamara in January

Kamara has been a standout performer in Ligue 1 in recent times. But, his current deal with Marseille is expected to run out next summer.

As a result, it was believed that he could be available for a bargain transfer fee in January. But a Marseille exit has not happened and he has remained at the Ligue 1 club. It looks like he will leave in the summer as a free agent.

On the other hand, while Manchester United might have turned down the chance to sign Kamara in January, it does not mean that they will do the same in the summer as well. It is pretty clear that they are waiting to appoint a new manager before making any significant additions to the squad. And signing someone of Kamara’s quality as a free agent would be a tremendous move.
