Manchester United could definitely do with another midfielder. It has been viewed as an area of weakness for the club for a long time now. On top of that, Paul Pogba’s current deal with the Red Devils will run out next summer and he looks likely to leave as a free agent. The Old Trafford futures of the likes of Donny van de Beek and Nemanja Matic are up in the air as well.

One midfielder that Manchester United have been linked with in recent times is Brighton & Hove Albion’s Yves Bissouma, who has impressed in the Premier League.

There is interest in the Mali international from other clubs across England as well, with Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa also believed to be keeping an eye on his situation. His current deal with Brighton & Hove Albion is believed to run out in the summer of 2023, meaning he is set to enter the final year of his contract very soon.

An admission from Bissouma might have handed Manchester United a potential boost though. As reported by Birmingham Live, the midfielder said:

"“I didn’t go this summer, maybe it’s because it’s not my time to go.“When my time will come, it’s my time, but I’m happy in Brighton, I’m enjoying playing football.“My dream is like every player, I want to play in the Champions League, I want to be champions. I want to compare myself on the top level, not just with other players.”"

Manchester United handed potential Bissouma transfer boost

At this point of time, it looks very unlikely that Aston Villa will secure a Champions League spot anytime soon.

On the other hand, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are competing with each other to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season and secure a Champions League qualification spot.

Thus, if Bissouma was to leave Brighton & Hove Albion next summer, that could play a big factor with regards to where he ultimately ends up. He is believed to be rated at a transfer fee around £50 million by his club but with him entering the final year of his contract, it would not be a surprise to see him move for a lower figure.
