There are a number of players at Manchester United whose current deals at Old Trafford are running out next summer and the club would be happy if they could agree contract extensions with them. It has proven to be difficult for the most part, with stars like Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard looking set to depart as free agents a few months later. The Red Devils have managed to agree a new deal with one player though before sending him out on loan.

The player in question is Matej Kovar. The 21-year-old goalkeeper has been impressive in recent times and was even called up to Czech Republic’s senior squad in 2021.

As reported by Manchester United’s official website, Kovar has signed a new contract with the club till the summer of 2023 with there being the option of an additional year’s extension as well.

He will also spend the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign out on loan at League One side, Burton Albion.

It will be interesting to see whether Kovar is able to develop to the point where he can make a mark for Manchester United between the posts in the future.

That has been one of Manchester United’s strongest positions in recent times. Even now, they have three solid goalkeepers at Old Trafford in the form of David de Gea, Dean Henderson and Tom Heaton.

De Gea and Henderson are good enough to start between the posts for most clubs in the world. The Spaniard has returned to his best form this season, which has reduced the playing time of his English counterpart, who is believed to be looking for an Old Trafford exit next summer.

On the other hand, Heaton completed a move to Old Trafford in the summer although he is yet to make his presence felt.
