The January transfer window is in the books. And surprisingly, Manchester United did not end up making a single addition to their squad, despite it being clear that they need to improve if they are to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season. The fact that Ralf Rangnick is only the interim manager till the end of the campaign surely would have played a big factor in this decision.

The club were very active though, when it comes to sending out players on loan. But they did not let them leave on a permanent basis, with a long-term manager expected to arrive in the summer.

One player who got his temporary move away from Old Trafford is Donny van de Beek, after struggling for playing time under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as well as Rangnick. He will be at Everton till the end of the season.

It looks like the Dutchman could have potentially ended up elsewhere though. As reported by Yorkshire Evening Post, Van de Beek was made available to Leeds United on loan for the rest of the season but The Peacocks turned down the chance.

Leeds United turned down the chance to sign the Manchester United star

Leeds United have already signed one player from Manchester United this season in the form of Daniel James but decided not to go after Van de Beek.

Ultimately, the Dutchman should be happy with where he has ended up on loan though. Everton were believed to be interested in signing him in the summer as well and now, he will get a chance to play under the management of Frank Lampard, one of the best in the history of the Premier League, who has a solid record of developing players till now.

It remains to be seen how Van de Beek’s stint at Everton goes and whether he can become a star at Manchester United in the future.
