As we approach the end of the January transfer window, Manchester United continue to be linked with a number of players although they have not made any signings this month till now. Since last summer, the club are believed to have had an interest in making an addition to their midfield department. But a move has not materialised yet despite several stars believed to be on the Red Devils’ radar.
In the 2021/22 season, Manchester United’s midfield has looked shaky at times, with Scott McTominay and Fred playing in the double pivot regularly. And there have been question marks over their consistency for a long time as well.
On top of that, the futures of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Donny van de Beek have been up in the air for quite a while now. Thus, Manchester United could definitely do with another option in the middle of the park.
And there have been some suggestions recently that they could make a move for Juventus’ Arthur Melo in the January transfer window. It does not appear that that will happen though.
Manchester United’s stance on Arthur transfer revealed
As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Arthur is not a target for Manchester United.
Juventus are believed to be open to the prospect of the Brazilian midfielder leaving in the ongoing transfer window. Arsenal were believed to be keen on a loan move, but nothing has transpired in that regard either.
When it comes to Manchester United, the focus currently seems to be more on sending players out on loan rather than bringing in any new ones.
That is a sensible strategy as well as the club are expected to bring in a long-term manager in the summer, with Ralf Rangnick’s run as interim manager set to come to a conclusion at the end of the season.
