Manchester United have been very active in the latter stages of the January transfer window when it comes to letting players leave on loan. Anthony Martial has joined Sevilla, Amad has joined the Rangers and Donny van de Beek has joined Everton, all on a temporary basis. There are more players at Old Trafford though, who have struggled for playing time and could be benefited by a spell away from the club.

Jesse Lingard is one such player. He had enjoyed a tremendous half-a-season loan spell at West Ham United last season and expectations were high when he returned to Manchester United in the summer.

Things have not gone his way though. Lingard has struggled for playing time at Old Trafford this season.

As a result, he was linked with another loan spell away from the club. But as reported by ESPN, Lingard has been stopped from moving to Newcastle United by Manchester United’s board despite Ralf Rangnick giving his green light to the move.

Manchester United have blocked Lingard’s potential move on deadline day

Lingard’s current deal at Manchester United runs out next summer and even though the club might have blocked a loan deal for him this month, he looks set to leave as a free agent not too long afterwards.

Newcastle United appeared to be very interested in signing him on loan till the end of the season this month though, but that has not happened.

Now, it looks like Lingard will remain at Old Trafford till the end of the campaign. And with first-team opportunities looking hard to come by anytime soon, it also means that he is most likely going to spend it sitting on the bench. While far from ideal, it looks like that is how his time at Manchester United, a club he joined over two decades ago, will come to an end.
