Coming into the January transfer window, there were a lot of transfer rumours surrounding Manchester United. And with the club facing a tough fight to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season, fans would have been hoping that they sign a player or two this month in order to strengthen the squad and give Ralf Rangnick’s side a big boost moving forward.
That has not happened though. Instead, Manchester United have focused mostly on sending players out on loan.
The strategy makes sense with Rangnick only the interim manager till the end of the campaign and a long-term appointment expected in the summer.
But it has also result in several players who were linked with potential moves to Manchester United, moving elsewhere. And there have been some big misses for the Red Devils for sure.
Manchester United’s 3 biggest January transfer misses
Here are Manchester United’s three biggest transfer misses of the January transfer window, as the club were mostly inactive in terms of incomings:
Denis Zakaria

Manchester United need to strengthen their midfield as soon as they can and one player that the club have been linked with since the summer transfer window is Denis Zakaria.
With his contract at Borussia Monchengladbach set to come to an end, he was available for a bargain transfer fee this month and as a result, many believed was a perfect signing for Manchester United.
The Red Devils have not made a move for Zakaria though. Instead, he has ended up at Juventus, while it looks like Manchester United’s search for a midfielder will continue in the summer.
It remains to be seen what the future holds but it is safe to say that someone like Zakaria could have proven to be a solid addition to Rangnick’s squad, which appears light on options in the middle of the park right now.
