Manchester United have not made any addition to their squad in the ongoing January transfer window despite being linked with a number of players in recent weeks. While it is clear that the Red Devils need to improve a lot, the strategy also makes sense considering the fact that Ralf Rangnick is only the interim manager of the club till the end of the season, with a long-term appointment expected in the summer.

It is then that Manchester United are expected to make significant additions to the team. But as a result of this strategy, Liverpool have won the race for the signature of Luis Diaz, a player who the Red Devils have been linked with as well after his impressive form with FC Porto.

As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have agreed a deal with FC Porto for Diaz, which will see them shell out a €40 million transfer fee upfront along with another potential €20 million in add ons.

The Colombian is expected to sign with the Merseyside club till the summer of 2027. And it is believed that Liverpool decided to complete the move in January itself, in order to beat the competition for Diaz’s signature in the summer.

Liverpool have won the transfer race for Manchester United-linked Diaz

Diaz has shown tremendous potential in recent times and could have proven to be a solid addition to the current Manchester United team, who have struggled going forward.

But Liverpool have won the race for his signature and as a result, Manchester United will have to move their sights elsewhere in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Manchester United are not the only Premier League club who were believed to be interested in Diaz though as Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur were heavily linked with a move for the Colombian as well. Thus, it appears that Jurgen Klopp’s side have pulled off a major coup late in January.
