Manchester United need to strengthen their squad. It does not look like they will do that this month though as the club have not made an addition till now in the January transfer window, although we are just days away from it slamming shut. Next summer could be a different story, with a new long-term manager expected to arrive at Old Trafford then, with Ralf Rangnick’s interim manager coming to an end.

One area that has been viewed as a weakness in this Manchester United team for a while is their midfield.

And on top of that, the futures of Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek appear to be up in the air, while at 33 years of age, Nemanja Matic is not getting any better. Thus, it might not be a bad idea on the part of the Red Devils to make an addition in the middle of the park in the near future.

As reported by RMC Sport, Manchester United are in the race to sign AS Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni. Clubs like Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and Barcelona are also believed to hold an interest though.

Manchester United are in the transfer race to sign Tchouameni from AS Monaco

Tchouameni has been a standout in Ligue 1 for quite some time now and has made several appearances for the France national team as well. And with the amount of interest in his signature, an exit from AS Monaco looks almost inevitable at this point of time.

It is just a few days back that Tchouameni turned 22 years of age and he is expected to get even better moving forward.

Thus, it is not hard to understand why some of the best clubs in Europe are interested in signing the French midfielder. Now, it remains to be seen where he will eventually end up. Manchester United fans must be hoping that it turns out to be Old Trafford.
