The January transfer window has not been very eventful for the big Premier League clubs till now but it is certainly picking up a bit of pace over the last week of the month, with Manchester United having sent a couple of their players out on loan recently. Anthony Martial has joined Sevilla while Amad has gone to the Rangers. Ralf Rangnick’s side look set to be handed a major blow by Liverpool though.
Both Manchester United and Liverpool, as well as Tottenham Hotspur, are believed to hold an interest in FC Porto’s Luis Diaz.
Now though, it looks like it is Jurgen Klopp’s side who are set to come out on top in the race for the Colombian international’s signature.
As reported by ESPN, Liverpool are attempting to beat Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur to the £37 million signing of Diaz after abandoning plans to wait until the summer to sign the FC Porto winger.
Liverpool hand Manchester United a Diaz transfer blow
As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, FC Porto have received an official transfer bid from Liverpool for Diaz. It is a €40 million guaranteed fee plus a further €25 million in bonuses.
Diaz is enjoying a brilliant campaign with FC Porto right now and has easily been one of their standout performers this season. It does not look like he will remain with the Portuguese club for much longer though as a transfer looks likely to happen either this month or next summer.
It is safe to say that Diaz has the potential to be a very good signing for Manchester United. But at this point of time, it looks unlikely that he will end up at Old Trafford. Instead, it looks like Anfield is the most likely destination for the Colombian international right now. Let’s see how things turn out over the next few days.
