Manchester United and Atletico Madrid are set to face each other in one of the most exciting Last 16 ties in this season’s UEFA Champions League. Neither side is going through a brilliant campaign this time around but when the two meet, it is safe to say that a lot of eyes will be on the two legs. Unfortunately for the Spanish side though, they have already been handed a blow ahead of the games.

Yannick Carrasco had been sent off against FC Porto during the group stage of the Champions League this season.

And as reported by MARCA, UEFA has ruled that Carrasco be banned for three games for his actions against FC Porto. As a result, the Atletico Madrid star will be out for both legs against Manchester United.

It goes without saying that this is a boost for Manchester United as Carrasco has been one of Atletico Madrid’s most important players this season. On the other hand, Diego Simeone has been handed another problem to solve.

It is safe to say that the situation is far from ideal for Atletico Madrid. After winning La Liga last season, they have struggled this time around in the league and were not brilliant during the Champions League group stage either although they were able to make it into the knockout phase of the competition.

As a result, Manchester United must be confident of their chances of going through to the quarter-finals.

The Red Devils have picked up a bit of form since the arrival of Ralf Rangnick as manager and one also cannot forget that they have Cristiano Ronaldo in their team, who has an incredible record against Atletico Madrid. Thus, at this point of time, one has to give the advantage to Manchester United.
