It does feel like Manchester United could be set for a busy last few days of the January transfer window. Anthony Martial has already completed a loan move to Sevilla and there are several other players at the club, who could do with spells away from Old Trafford as well after struggling for playing time. One such player is Jesse Lingard, whose current deal with the Red Devils runs out next summer.

Lingard had been incredible during his loan spell at West Ham United in the second half of last season. And as a result, he had returned to Manchester United with a lot of expectations.

Unfortunately though, things have not gone as he would have envisioned. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Lingard has made 14 appearances this season, which have combined for 273 minutes of football in total.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the breakdown of Lingard’s loan move to Newcastle United has left the England international angry and frustrated. Manchester United appeared to have been looking for a £12 million survival bonus, if the Magpies stayed up in the Premier League, on top of a £2.5 million loan fee and the player’s wages.

Manchester United star not happy as loan move to Newcastle falls through

It is safe to say that a loan move to Newcastle United till the end of the season could have helped Lingard, with there appearing to be very little chance of him breaking into the first-team picture at Manchester United any time in the near future.

His current deal with the club will run out in the summer of 2022 though, and it is looking very likely that he will walk out of Old Trafford as a free agent then.

There is not expected to be any lack of interest in his signature. Other than Newcastle United, Premier League clubs like Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United have also been linked with Lingard.
