As we enter the final week of the January transfer window, it looks like things are finally picking up pace at Manchester United. With the amount of rumours that had surrounded the club, especially regarding players wanting to leave, it was a bit of a surprise that there had not been much movement at Old Trafford. But now, one long-time star looks to be headed out the exit door, even if only on loan.

The player in question is Anthony Martial, who has struggled for form, fitness and playing time this season, and has been linked with a move away for a while.

As reported by Sky Sports, Sevilla have reached an agreement to sign Martial on loan from Manchester United. The Spanish club will pay the Frenchman’s wages in full till the end of the season.

There was believed to be interest from clubs like Barcelona and Juventus as well but Martial wanted to join Sevilla because that is where he believes he will play the most.

Martial set to join Sevilla on loan from Manchester United

After a tremendous 2019/20 campaign that had seen him finish as Manchester United’s top scorer for the season, Martial has found the going tough.

His form has dipped for sure and at this point of time, he finds himself behind the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood in the pecking order. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Martial has made 11 appearances this season, just scoring once in the process and playing 367 minutes of football in total.

As a result, a loan exit looks like the right step for both the club and the player. If he can find his best form at Sevilla, Martial might return to make an impact at Old Trafford once again. Or he could leave on a permanent basis, as there would expected to be more interest in his signature then.
