It is a bit surprising that there has not been a significant outgoing at Manchester United in the ongoing January transfer window, considering the number of rumours that had surrounded Old Trafford over the past few months. Several first-team players were expected to be headed out the exit door after struggling for playing time. But till now, for one reason or another, that has not happened.

Jesse Lingard is one such player. He was expected to play a big part in the Manchester United first-team this season but that has not been the case at all. Instead, first-team minutes have been hard to come by and he has found himself mostly on the bench.

There have been suggestions that he could remain at Manchester United till the end of he campaign before leaving as a free agent in the summer, when his current deal runs out. But links with a move to Newcastle United refuse to go away.

Newcastle United’s first target right now would be to avoid relegation from the Premier League and in order to reach that aim, they have signed a few players in January. And it looks like they have Lingard in their sights as well.

Newcastle United are in talks to sign the Manchester United star

As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, the Newcastle United board are working hard to sign Lingard at least until the end of the season. Negotiations are ongoing with both Manchester United and the player’s representatives.

Lingard had enjoyed a tremendous half-a-season loan spell at West Ham United last season and during that period of time, was one of the best players in the Premier League.

Things have not gone as smoothly for him since returning to Manchester United though as he has spent most of his time on the bench. As a result, it would not be a surprise to see him leave soon.
