Bring in Diogo Dalot

Dalot had been signed during the time of Jose Mourinho as Manchester United manager but barely featured during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time in the managerial hot seat.

The Portuguese full-back has always had a lot of potential and can play down both the flanks, but despite that, he never appeared to be in the Norwegian manager’s plans.

So much so that he spent the previous season out on loan at AC Milan and did quite well there. Upon his return, he was expected to play a bigger role at Manchester United, but once again, that did not happen with Solskjaer giving the nod to Aaron Wan-Bissaka much more regularly despite questions being asked about his form.

As a result, most people expected Dalot to leave in January with a reunion with Mourinho at AS Roma looking very likely.

The situation would change significantly though since the arrival of Ralf Rangnick as the interim manager. The German coach has given Dalot a chance and he has taken it with both hands. And at this point of time, it does feel like he is the club’s first-choice right-back now, ahead of Wan-Bissaka.

Give Alex Telles a chance

Another full-back who has gotten a chance since the arrival of Rangnick is Telles. The Brazilian had joined Manchester United last season but with Luke Shaw in the best form of his career, he did not get a lot of chances and understandably so.

This season though, Shaw’s form has taken a dip but Solskjaer decided to stick with the Englishman despite that.

Rangnick came in and decided to give a chance to Telles. And similar to Dalot, he has taken it and made the most of the opportunity. Now, there appears to be a genuine competition for the left-back spot. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top eventually.
