Manchester United have made some progress, at least in terms of results, since appointing Ralf Rangnick as the club’s interim manager till the end of the campaign. While Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have played less games than them, the Red Devils are now back in the top four after having beaten West Ham United with a last gasp winner from Marcus Rashford.

Finishing in the top four will be the club’s primary target this season at this point of time although they are still playing for the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League as well.

After that, one would expect Manchester United to go after a long-term manager in the summer while Rangnick will take a consultancy role at the club. And one of the managers that the Red Devils have been most heavily linked with is Ajax’s Erik ten Hag.

Manchester United have been handed a blow in that regard though. As reported by the Mirror, one of the names in the frame to succeed Pep Guardiola as Manchester City manager is Erik ten Hag, if the Spaniard does end up leaving when his current deal runs out in the summer of 2023.

Guardiola has built one of the best teams in Premier League history ever since arriving as the manager of Manchester City.

But the Spaniard is not known for staying at any club for too long and there have also been rumours that he could look for a different challenge and try his hand at international management in the future.

If he does end up leaving, Manchester City will have to bring in a suitable replacement and it is not hard to see why they might be interested in Ten Hag.

He has done a tremendous job at Ajax over the past few years, both domestically and in Europe, and that is the reason why Manchester United are also believed to have an eye on him.
