It had looked like Manchester United were set to drop points again after what had been a cagey game against fellow top four chasers, West Ham United. Ralf Rangnick’s side left it as late as possible though to grab victory from the jaws of a draw with Marcus Rashford finding the back of the net in stoppage time, handing the Red Devils all three points as a result of it.

This is a huge result for Manchester United to say the least, who have now won two games on the trot and their top four hopes have surely been raised as a result of it, although there is still a long road ahead for the Red Devils.

Rashford’s performances in the past couple of games have been very positive to say the least after he had looked very off colour in recent times.

He scored against Brentford in the club’s 3-1 win and has now scored the winner against West Ham United. And Rangnick believes that he could have a big role to play in their season moving forward. As reported by the Daily Mail, the interim manager said:

"‘Marcus is one of the top strikers in England and has everything you need for a modern forward; pace, skills, size and physicality.‘In the end it is all about confidence and I am pretty sure those two goals will have raised his confidence.‘It’s now about him taking the right steps and continuing. I think he will play an important role for the rest of the season.’"

Manchester United grabbed victory from the jaws of a draw against West Ham

Rashford has been one of Manchester United’s most important players for the past several years but like most of their forwards, he has not looked at the top of his game this season.

There is no question about his ability though and he showed a glimpse of how effective he can be against West Ham United by scoring the winner as late as possible.

This win could go a long way for Manchester United and have major implications on the top four come the end of the season. While their performances have left a lot to be desired since the arrival of Rangnick, the results have certainly improved.
