Jesse Lingard returned to Manchester United this summer after a tremendous half-a-season loan spell at West Ham United. The Hammers were believed to have an interest in signing him on a permanent basis but a move did not end up happening and he remained at Old Trafford. A few months on, and it appears to have been a mistake, as the English international has struggled for playing time in the 2021/22 campaign.
Lingard’s current deal with Manchester United is set to run out next summer though and as a result, he is expected to depart the club in the near future.
There have been rumours linking him with a move to Newcastle United this January itself but it looks like that might not be on the table at this moment, at least on a permanent basis.
As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, the Manchester United star won’t consider any permanent move offer from Newcastle United but the Magpies are still pushing for a loan until the end of the season:
Newcastle proposal for Diego Carlos around €30m guaranteed has been turned down - Magpies are still pushing, Sevilla want to keep Diego but deal’s not off. ⚪️ #NUFC

Jesse Lingard won’t consider any permanent move bid from Newcastle - club still pushing for a loan until June.
Manchester United star makes Newcastle transfer decision
It appears that Lingard is aiming to take his time before making a decision on his future, which does seem like the sensible thing to do on his part, with him entering the final six months of his contract. At 29 years of age, he has to get his next move right.
Newcastle United currently sit at 19th in the Premier League table and are very much in the middle of a relegation battle right now.
The thing about Lingard is that he has not been bad when he has been on the pitch this season. On the contrary, he has made a positive impact on most occasions. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has played just 273 minutes of football over 14 appearances, scoring twice and assisting once.
