Manchester United have been linked with several players in recent times as it is clear that there are quite a few areas in the current squad where they could do with a bit of strengthening. One of those is their midfield. The club were expected to make an addition there in the summer transfer window but did not end up doing so. In hindsight, that appears to have been a bit of a mistake on the part of the Red Devils.
Fred and Scott McTominay have continued as their regular pairing in the middle of the park. And as always, their form has blown hot and cold through the course of the campaign. On the other hand, Nemanja Matic is no longer at his best at 33 years of age while the likes of Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek could be on their way out of Manchester United soon.
Thus, the Red Devils could do with another addition there, especially in defensive midfield, which was an area of weakness for the club even before the start of the season.
One player that Manchester United had been linked with recently is Borussia Monchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria but now, it looks like the situation has changed.
Manchester United’s Zakaria stance appears to have changed
As reported by Sky Sport, there were talks with Ralf Rangnick and Zakaria’s management, but Manchester United’s interest has cooled and a move to Old Trafford is currently unlikely.
Zakaria has been a standout performer in the Bundesliga for some time now but his current deal with Borussia Monchengladbach is set to run out next summer.
As a result, it is believed that he could potentially be available for a transfer fee around €10 million, which would be a bargain for a player of his quality. But despite that, it looks like Manchester United might not end up making a move for the Swiss international.
