Bruno Fernandes has divided the opinion of Manchester United fans this season. There is no denying that he has been nowhere near his best form. While he was one of the best players in the Premier League over the past season-and-a-half, since his arrival at Old Trafford in January of 2020, the picture has looked quite different this time around for the Portuguese playmaker.
While Fernandes has been pretty good in the Champions League in setting up goals, his form in front of goal, both domestically and in Europe has left a lot to be desired.
The Portuguese star had scored a hattrick in Manchester United’s opening Premier League game of the season, against Leeds United, but then, managed to score only twice more till the end of the year.
Fernandes would find his scoring boots once again recently, by scoring a brace in the 2-2 draw against Aston Villa. And while the result left a lot to be desired for Manchester United, the fans must have at least been happy to see him find some form.
Manchester United handed Fernandes contract blow
It is not all great news surrounding the Portuguese star at the moment though. As reported by the Daily Mail, Fernandes has put negotiations over a lucrative new contract at Manchester United on hold, having turned down an offer last year. Talks have been paused and won’t resume until the end of the season.
Manchester United will definitely want to keep Fernandes at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future. While he might not be going through a great season, there is no question about his ability. On top of his game, he is one of the best in the Premier League.
Now, it remains to be seen how things unfold and a lot could depend on how the season goes for Manchester United as well.
