Manchester United dropped another two points, against Aston Villa on Saturday. Going 2-0 up in the 67th minute of the game, thanks to a Bruno Fernandes brace, the Red Devils looked set to get all three points away from home. Yet, late goals from Jacob Ramsey and Philippe Coutinho resulted in a fantastic comeback for the Birmingham side and the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

Manchester United have held onto their seventh position in the Premier League table. Although their top four hopes are getting slimmer with every point dropped.

But it was not their unconvincing display against Aston Villa that grabbed most of the headlines but the future of Anthony Martial as there were suggestions that he had refused to be a part of the squad.

As reported by The Sun, Martial has denied claims from Ralf Rangnick that he did not want to be in the Manchester United squad against Aston Villa, as he posted on social media:

"“I will never refuse to play a match for Man Utd.“I’ve been here for seven years and I never disrespected and will never disrespect the club and the fans.”"

Martial’s Manchester United future is up in the air

As Manchester United were missing both Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford against Aston Villa, Rangnick opted to field Anthony Elanga. And one has to feel that this game could have been an opportunity for Martial to make his presence felt.

Martial has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford in this January transfer window. The likes of Sevilla, Barcelona, and Juventus are believed to be interested in making a move for the Frenchman. But till now, it does not look like a satisfactory offer has been put on the table.

It is clear that Martial wants to play regular football, which he has not in recent times for Manchester United. Thus, him wanting to leave the club is not a major surprise to anyone. The recent comments from the player as well as the interim manager have made things interesting though.
