Manchester United’s target of finishing in the top four has gotten much tougher over the past couple of weeks. First, they lost in convincing fashion against Wolves at Old Trafford. And then, they blew a 2-0 lead against Aston Villa, with the match ending 2-2 and the Red Devils dropping two further points. As a result, while the likes of Chelsea and West Ham United have struggled in recent times, Ralf Rangnick’s side have not been able to capitalise.

On the other hand, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur seem to be in much better form right now and could very well be ahead of Manchester United in the race for a top four spot.

Naturally, it is pretty difficult to be positive about how things have been going for Manchester United recently, especially in the Premier League.

But one has to admit that there were some things to be happy about, coming out of the 2-2 draw against Aston Villa.

One of Manchester United’s biggest worries this season has been the form of Bruno Fernandes. He had been arguably the club’s best player over the past year-and-a-half but has not found the going as smooth this time around.

Fernandes had scored a hattrick in the opening game of the Premier League season, against Leeds United, but since then, he had managed to score only twice more coming into the game against Aston Villa.

Form went out of the window against Steven Gerrard’s side though as Fernandes found the back of the net twice to hand Manchester United a 2-0 lead. Unfortunately, they could not hold on to it and had to split the points with Aston Villa after conceding two late goals, from Jacob Ramsey and Philippe Coutinho.
