As Manchester United sit at 7th in the Premier League table, it is safe to say that the Red Devils need to improve significantly over the coming months if they are to finish in the top four this season. The recent struggles of Chelsea have given them some hope that there might be an opportunity soon but Ralf Rangnick’s side have not managed to impress with their recent performances either.

It is safe to say that midfield is one area that they could do with more options in. The club were expected to sign a midfielder in the summer but they did not end up doing so, despite making other big signings like Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.

In hindsight, that has looked like a mistake on the part of Manchester United, who have struggled this season and have already undergone a change in the managerial hot seat, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer being shown the exit door in November.

It remains to be seen if the club make signings in January. As reported Give Me Sport, journalist Alex Crook has not ruled out the possibility of Manchester United making a move for Borussia Monchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria:

"“I think certainly there’s been talks between United and his representatives.“No fee agreed yet, and there would be a minimal fee, I think it’d be less than £10 million to sign him this month.”"

Could Manchester United make a move for Zakaria this month?

Zakaria has been a standout performer in the Bundesliga for a while now and it is not hard to see why so many top clubs are interested in the Swiss midfielder.

On top of that, his current deal with Borussia Monchengladbach runs out at the end of this season. Thus, he looks set to become a free agent next summer, having not agreed a new deal yet. Or he might even be available for a bargain transfer fee this month.

If Manchester United are able to sign Zakaria this month, it would be considered as a huge boost. It remains to be seen if they do decide to make a move.
