One area that Manchester United could certainly do with more additions in is their midfield. The middle of the park has been a worry for the Red Devils in recent times despite having a lot of options there. The futures of Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek are up in the air, while at 33 years of age, Nemanja Matic is no longer the player that he once was. Questions have been raised about Fred and Scott McTominay as well.

Manchester United were expected to sign a midfielder in the summer but surprisingly, did not end up doing so. And in hindsight, that appears to have been a mistake on their part.

While the Red Devils continue to be linked with midfielders in January as well, they have not made a move yet this time either and might end up waiting till the summer to do so.

As reported by la Repubblica (via Express), Manchester United are ‘on pole’ to sign Fabian Ruiz, when he enters the final year of his current deal with Napoli in July.

Manchester United linked with move for Napoli superstar

Ruiz has been one of the most highly-rated midfielders in the world for quite some time now and has been a standout for Napoli for years. And this season, the Spanish midfield maestro appears to have taken his game to the next level as well.

In the past, he has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona but it never quite materialised. Now, it remains to be seen if Manchester United are able to sign him in the future.

It might be a bit easier for the Red Devils as he will enter the final year of his contract with Napoli soon. There would be expected to be quite a few suitors for his signature if he does end up leaving the Italian side though.
