Surprisingly, neither Dean Henderson nor David de Gea left Manchester United in the previous summer transfer window although rumours had suggested that one of them would be gone, with both being good enough to start for most clubs in the world. Sergio Romero did depart the club, while the Red Devils brought in Tom Heaton. And it is safe to say that they have one of the strongest goalkeeping departments in the world right now.

With Manchester United having several goalkeepers in their ranks, the club has struggled to offer each of them satisfactory playing time this season.

Henderson has not accumulated nearly the game time that he would have expected coming into the campaign.

De Gea’s brilliant form has not helped Henderson’s case either and he has been left on the bench for the most part. The Englishman had impressed last season but according to stats from Transfermarkt, he has only made two appearances for the senior team across all competitions this season.

Henderson looks set to remain at Manchester United despite lack of games

Over the last few months, there have been rumours that the Englishman could be looking to leave the club in this January transfer window in search of regular game time.

And it has emerged that he also asked if he could leave, although that request has been denied. As reported by talkSPORT, Ralf Rangnick said:

"“A couple of weeks ago he asked me [if he could leave] but I told him I’d rather have him stay until the end of the season.“We are very happy with our goalkeepers but if it’s up to me I wouldn’t want him to leave.”"

Considering that the 24-year-old would want to be in the England squad for the upcoming World Cup, it is understandable for Henderson to want to join a club where he would play more games and get a chance to impress.

But for the time being, it looks like Manchester United will hold on to him till the end of the season although on De Gea’s current form, there appears to be very little chance of him starting ahead of the Spaniard any time soon.
