Defence has been an area of worry for Manchester United for years now. And although the club did end up signing Raphael Varane in the summer from Real Madrid, things have not improved as much as they would have been hoping for. The French World Cup winner has had his own struggles with injuries while the Red Devils have not made significant progress at the back.
On the other hand, Harry Maguire’s form has raised questions about the Manchester United captain as well. And even then, Eric Bailly has not played a lot of football this season.
According to stats from Transfermarkt, Bailly has made just 7 appearances for Manchester United this season and played 487 minutes of football.
Thus, it is not surprising that the Ivory Coast international has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford recently. And it looks like AC Milan are a club who have an eye on Bailly and have even made first approaches for the player. Fabrizio Romano tweeted out:
AC Milan are working to sign a new centre back. Eric Bailly, one of the names in the list - first approaches started for Man Utd player. Nothing advanced yet. 🔴 #MUFC @SkySport

Bailly could be headed for Manchester United exit with AC Milan interested
When Bailly joined Manchester United, he was one of the most highly-rated young defenders at the point of time and many believed could go on to become one of the best in the world one day.
It is safe to say that that has not turned out to be the case. Now 27 years of age, Bailly has been at Manchester United for over five years, but he has never quite been able to nail down his spot in the Red Devils’ starting XI on a consistent basis. Of course, his injury problems have played a part in that as well.
Overall, a move away from Manchester United might not be a bad idea for Bailly at this point of time. It remains to be seen though whether the Red Devils are open to the idea of letting him leave in January.
