On paper, Manchester United have improved significantly ever since the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager. Their results have improved, they have made it to the knockout phase of the UEFA Champions League and the fourth round of the FA Cup after sealing a 1-0 win over Aston Villa. But the performances have left a lot to be desired and the fans will know that the Red Devils need to improve a lot if they are to enjoy a successful season.

One of their biggest problems since the arrival of Ralf Rangnick as interim manager has been their inability to find the back of the net on a consistent basis.

While they have appeared to improve at the back, they have struggled going forward despite having players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and many other goalscorers in their team.

Paul Scholes believes that Mason Greenwood should be playing much more football than he has recently. As reported by Manchester World, the Manchester United legend said on the Webby & O’Neill YouTube channel:

"“Mason Greenwood is a brilliant player – great potential. The manager keeps taking him off; he’s almost become a little bit of a scapegoat, a little bit of an easy target because he’s a young player.“He should be playing up front for this team. As good as [Cristiano] Ronaldo and [Edinson] Cavani are, and have been throughout their careers, for Manchester United’s centre forwards to be 37 and 34 just tells us where the club is at.“Greenwood has to be playing now – and in the future.”"

It appears that Scholes feels that Greenwood should be playing regular football despite the likes of Ronaldo and Cavani in the team.

Now, there is nothing left to be said about the careers that those two legends have had but this season, it just has not clicked for either of them.

Ronaldo has scored a lot of goals but it is clear that he is no longer in his prime when he would win you games on his own, although he remains a brilliant goalscorer. On the other hand, Cavani has struggled with both form and fitness.

Thus, it might not be a bad idea to give Greenwood a run of games up front and see if he is able to make a positive impact.
