Manchester United have not had the greatest first half to the 2021/22 season. Coming into the campaign, there were hopes that they would put up a challenge for the Premier League title, having added Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho to a squad that had finished second last time around. It is safe to say though that things have not worked out as expected.
Instead, Manchester United have struggled and appeared to take a step back despite those huge summer signings. At the moment, they find themselves sitting at seventh in the Premier League.
There is some reason to be positive though as they are in the UEFA Champions League knockout phase after a while and are still competing in the FA Cup as well.
Hopefully, they will also be able to put up a challenge in the top four race in the Premier League at least.
Manchester United: 3 best players from first half of 2021/22 season
Here are Manchester United’s 3 best players from the first half of the 2021/22 season, as the Red Devils have struggled overall:
#3. Fred

This will be a controversial choice in the eyes of many and to be honest, Fred has had an up and down time in a Manchester United shirt through the years.
At times, he looks like he is not good enough to be starting for Manchester United. At others, he looks like he is one of the most important midfielders in this team.
Recently, he has put in some very impressive performances and is one of the major reasons behind Manchester United’s improvement at the back since the arrival of Ralf Rangnick as interim manager.
Of course, he has not been brilliant throughout the campaign and in a different season, he might not have made the top 3. But this time around, with very few players stepping up, the Brazilian midfielder has to be given the nod for his inconsistent yet important performances.
