It is no secret that Manchester United need to improve in the middle of the park. As it is, their midfield leaves quite a bit to be desired. On top of that, the Old Trafford futures of players like Paul Pogba, Donny van de Beek and Nemanja Matic appear to be up in the air as well. Thus, the Red Devils could do with another option or two there, whether they bring them in this January or next summer.
One player that the club have been linked with quite a bit recently is Denis Zakaria. The Swiss midfielder has impressed in the Bundesliga while playing for Borussia Monchengladbach.
His current deal with the club is believed to run out at the end of the season though, meaning that he could be available as a free agent a few months later or potentially even for a bargain transfer fee this January.
There have been rumours that Manchester United have submitted a transfer bid for Zakaria but that does not appear to be the case.
Latest update on Zakaria to Manchester United situation
As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have not made a transfer bid for Zakaria as things stand. The option has been discussed though as he is appreciated by Ralf Rangnick. On the other hand, more than four clubs are working to sign the midfielder as a free agent in July.
Zakaria could be a solid addition in midfield for Manchester United. But it remains to be seen if they can bring him to Old Trafford with there appearing to be some solid competition for the Swiss international’s signature.
It must be said though that if there is one position that the Red Devils need to strengthen in this month, it might very well be their midfield, which has been an area of weakness for some time.
