Manchester United currently find themselves in the middle of a difficult situation. It is not just the players with expiring contracts who are being linked with moves away from Old Trafford but also those on long-term deals. As a result of this, one area that the Red Devils could need to strengthen in soon is their midfield.
Paul Pogba could very possibly leave the club next summer, with his current deal set to run out. Juan Mata is also expected to depart Old Trafford soon, after struggling for first-team opportunities. Doubts linger over the future of Donny van de Beek as well, while Nemanja Matic is no longer in his prime as a footballer at 33 years of age.
Considering all these circumstances, new additions to the midfield department are expected in the near future. But the club might have some tough competition for one of their long-term targets, Aurelien Tchouameni.

Manchester United’s interest in Tchouameni has been rumoured for several months now. And it is not hard to see why considering he has been one of the standouts in Ligue 1 recently.
Tchouameni started his career at Bordeaux and then moved to AS Monaco in 2020. Now 21 years of age, he is a regular for the club and has also made multiple appearances for the France national team.
Playing as a defensive midfielder and as a box-to-box midfielder sometimes, the youngster has attracted a lot of attention over the past couple of seasons.
Tchouameni has the potential to be a brilliant addition for Manchester United. But the transfer race for his signature is not expected to be easy. Other than Liverpool, the likes of Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus and several other clubs have also been linked with the French international.
