Manchester United have had their defensive problems for some time now and were hoping to solve them with the signing of Raphael Varane from Real Madrid in the summer. One of the most decorated defenders in the world, he was expected to come in and transform the club’s backline into one of the best in the Premier League. It is pretty safe to say though that that has not happened till now.
Varane has had his fair share of injury problems since arriving at Manchester United. On the other hand, regulars like Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw have struggled to rediscover their form from last season.
Thus, it would not be a huge surprise if the club end up making a move for another centre-back in the near future. And it looks like they have a Borussia Dortmund star in their sights.
As reported by Foot Mercato, Dan-Axel Zagadou’s current deal with Borussia Dortmund runs out next summer and Manchester United have already started discussions with his representative.
Manchester United have started talks for Borussia Dortmund’s Zagadou
Zagadou has impressed during his time at Borussia Dortmund but it does feel like he has a lot more to offer.
Still only 22 years of age, he has plenty of time on his side to develop and improve though. And thus, if Manchester United were able to sign him, it would be considered as a major coup on the part of the club.
Zagadou had joined Borussia Dortmund back in the summer of 2017 and according to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 80 appearances for the Bundesliga giants since then.
It is not hard to see why Manchester United are interested in signing the youngster but there is expected to be quite a bit of competition for his signature. Let’s see how things unfold in the future. Of course, one cannot rule out the possibility of him extending his deal with Borussia Dortmund either.
