Manchester United might have enjoyed a magnificent summer transfer window, bringing in superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, but the performances and results since then have been well below expectations. In fact, the Red Devils have taken a step back after finishing in second last season and find themselves in a top four race now along with Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and West Ham United.
Thus, it is safe to say that Manchester United need to improve further if they are to challenge for the Premier League title in the future. And one area that they need to bring in reinforcements is their midfield.
One player that Manchester United have been heavily linked with in recent times is Declan Rice although it is believed that West Ham United rate him at a transfer fee around £100 million.
As reported by The Sun, Ralf Rangnick has agreed to the club pushing on with their detailed assessment of Rice as one of their top summer targets. They are likely to do the groundwork in putting together a big transfer bid at the end of the season.
Manchester United ready push for Rice
Nemanja Matic is 33 years of age and no longer in his prime. Paul Pogba’s future at Old Trafford is very much up in the air. And while both Fred and Scott McTominay have put in some impressive performances recently, there are big question marks about their consistency.
On the other hand, Rice has been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League for a while now and a regular for the England national team. At 22 years of age, he would be expected to improve even further moving forward.
Thus, someone like Rice could be an excellent addition for Manchester United in the summer. It must be said though that clubs like Manchester City and Chelsea are also believed to be interested in him.
