Coming into the campaign, Edinson Cavani was expected to lead the line for Manchester United after his tremendous second half to the 2020/21 season, when he found the back of the net consistently and looked like one of the best strikers in the Premier League. But that all changed when Cristiano Ronaldo completed an incredible return to Old Trafford late in the summer transfer window.

Since then, the Portuguese superstar has been the starter at striker for Manchester United as one would expect. And combined with the Uruguayan’s own injury problems, it has meant that Cavani has not played a lot of football this season.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Cavani has made 10 appearances this season, which have combined for 408 minutes of football and scored 2 goals.

Thus, it is not a huge surprise that he has been linked with a January exit, with clubs like Barcelona and Juventus believed to be interested. But it looks like Manchester United are not going to let him leave this month. As reported by The Irish Times, Ralf Rangnick said:

"“We spoke about Edi and he knows that I will definitely not let him go. For me, he is a highly important player for the rest of the season, still playing in three competitions, so we will definitely need Edi.”"

Manchester United have made Cavani transfer decision

It looks like Cavani will be staying at Manchester United till the end of the season. His current deal with the club runs out next summer.

Cavani has featured more over the past couple of games and will surely be hoping to get more playing time moving forward. It remains to be seen how things turn out for the Uruguayan although it must be said that he still has a lot to bring to the table.

Cavani is not the only player being linked with a January exit though. Another player who is believed to be looking to leave is Anthony Martial. The Frenchman has been linked with clubs like Barcelona, Juventus and Sevilla till now but it remains to be seen if a move is agreed this month.
