Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Burnley at Old Trafford was a massive boost for Ralf Rangnick’s side. Cristiano Ronaldo and Scott McTominay got on the scoresheet for the club, while the visitors also ended up conceding an own goal. Yes, it was not the best performance from the Red Devils and had a hint of luck involved as well, but ultimately it was a big improvement from their display against Newcastle United in the 1-1 draw.

Manchester United have not made tremendous progress since the arrival of Ralf Rangnick but there is no denying the fact that the results have improved quite a bit.

In fact, the club have not lost since the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager. And with the likes of Chelsea and West Ham United struggling for consistency at the moment, the Red Devils might have a great chance to break into the top four if they can go on a good run of results.

Rangnick was not happy though with the manner of goal that they conceded against Burnley. As reported by Manchester United’s official website, the interim manager said:

"“I’m a little bit angry about the goal we conceded and that again was an unforced error. No, it was a forced error not an unforced error, that put us under pressure. In that case, Eric [Bailly], it was one of very few mistakes he made today. He should have kicked the ball and played it forward rather than do a short pass.”"

Manchester United need to improve but the signs are positive

It is safe to say that there is still a long way to go for this Manchester United side. And the first thing that they need to do is find some consistency.

It must be said though that their results have improved. And at this stage of the season, what matters most is that the points are coming, no matter how.

There is no doubt that this squad has the quality to finish in the top four of the Premier League and make a good run in Europe despite underperforming till now in the current campaign.

Hopefully they will keep on improving moving forward and end their search for a trophy this time around.
