With the January transfer window approaching fast, Manchester United are being linked with several players as potential signings while several of the club’s current stars are being linked with moves away from Old Trafford as well. Ultimately though, only a few of these will end up happening. There is one rumour that emerged recently though, that was absolutely incredible.
A story emerged in the Spanish media that Cristiano Ronaldo was interested in joining Barcelona and had offered the La Liga giants the chance to sign him.
Now, Ronaldo is the highest goalscorer in the history of Real Madrid and it would almost be unimaginable for him to join their biggest rivals, especially just months after sealing a return to Manchester United. One must remember though that at one point of time, there were heavy links surrounding the Portuguese star and Manchester City.
There does not seem to be any truth in the rumours linking Ronaldo with Barcelona though. As reported by ESPN, December 28 is “El Dia de Los Inocentes” (The Day of the Holy Innocents), which is the equivalent of April Fool’s Day in much of the Spanish-speaking world.
Rumours about Ronaldo leaving Manchester United for Barcelona are false
The rumours about Ronaldo leaving Manchester United for Barcelona might not be true, but that does not mean that the chances of the Portuguese star departing the club in the near future can be completely ruled out.
Ronaldo has had an up and down time at Manchester United since returning. There have been times when he has been the Red Devils’ talisman. At others, people have questioned whether the team has taken a step back as a result of his arrival.
And if Manchester United are unable to qualify for next season’s Champions League campaign, it would be interesting to see what Ronaldo decides to do.
