Manchester United’s winning run in the Premier League under the management of Ralf Rangnick came to a surprising end, as they could only manage a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United. And considering the form that the Magpies have been in this season, coming into the game, the Red Devils must surely have been confident of their chances.

Instead, they had to rely on a scruffy goal from Edinson Cavani and some wonderful goalkeeping from David de Gea once again, to come out of this game with a point. It could have easily gone the other way, if Newcastle United could have taken their chances.

This performance from Manchester United was reminiscent of the ones from earlier in the season.

And it is safe to say that it must have given Ralf Rangnick something to think about, as this result is a massive blow for them in the top four race.

Manchester United vs Newcastle United: 3 things we learned

Here are three things we learned as Manchester United could only manage to get a 1-1 draw away against Newcastle United in the Premier League:

David de Gea is back to his very best

To be very honest, Newcastle United could have easily won this game if not for David de Gea in goal for Manchester United.

In the summer, it had looked like the Spaniard was on his way out of the club after falling behind Dean Henderson in the pecking order and struggling for a few seasons. This season though, he is back to his very best and is firmly the number one for Manchester United once again.

He produced some wonder saves against Newcastle United to keep Manchester United in the game. And this has been the case very often this season.

After a long time, he is a game decider for the Red Devils once again and the fans must be delighted. Because at the top of his game, De Gea is simply one of the best in the world, and he is proving it right now.
