Manchester United have made some high profile signings lately. Just in the summer, they pulled off three by signing Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane. But the results on the pitch have not matched their transfer activity yet, with the club not managing to win a trophy in the past four seasons. As a result, the club continue to be linked with some of the biggest names in football.

One player who could be on the move in the future is Juventus’ Matthijs de Ligt. The Dutch centre-back first rose to prominence during Ajax’s surprise run to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals a few years back.

He would go on to join Juventus after that but has not developed as rapidly as was expected. Also, the Italian side have struggled at the same time but as a result, he could be looking for a move away in the future.

As reported by TRANSFER market WEB, Manchester United are tracking De Ligt, as are clubs like Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur and others.

Manchester United have an eye on Juventus’ De Ligt

It is easy to forget but De Ligt is still just 22 years of age. Thus, his potential is incredible and he could still go on to become one of the best defenders in the world one day, despite his somewhat underwhelming run at Juventus till now.

His current deal at Juventus is believed to run till the summer of 2024 and rumours have suggested that he has a release clause around €150 million.

Defence has been one of Manchester United’s weak spots for a while now and they could certainly do with an addition there, with there being serious question marks around Harry Maguire while Raphael Varane has struggled to remain fit on a consistent basis since arriving. Let’s see what happens in the De Ligt transfer race.
