Manchester United have recently been linked with a potential move for Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix. The Portuguese player was one of the most highly-rated youngsters in world football not too long ago. But since moving to the Spanish giants, he has struggled quite a bit and the side have never looked like a good fit for his style of football. Thus, could a move to Old Trafford be on the cards?
There is no question about Felix’s potential. He was nothing short of sensational when he broke through the ranks at Benfica and there is a reason that Atletico Madrid shelled out a transfer fee believed to be around €126 million to sign him.
Things have not quite gone to plan since then. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 21 goals and provided 11 assists in 91 appearances for Atletico Madrid. That is just one more goal and the same number of assists that he had produced at Benfica in just 43 appearances.
While there have been suggestions that Atletico Madrid want to hold on to Felix, Pete O’Rourke believes that a move to Manchester United is possible. As reported by Give Me Sport, the journalist said:
"“It’s something that I would definitely see as being possible.“They’ve got the Portuguese connection with Fernandes and Ronaldo, so that might help Felix settle in if he were to make the move to England.”"
Could Manchester United make a move for Felix in the future?
The connection with Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes is certainly already there at Manchester United and is something that must be considered.
On the other hand, there is also Manchester United’s incredible history with Portuguese players over the years. It just might be the right fit for Felix.
Of course, everything will depend on Atletico Madrid and Felix himself, and whether he wants to leave the club already.
Felix has a long-term contract with Atletico Madrid, which runs till the summer of 2026. Thus, they will not be in any hurry to part ways with the youngster unless the right offer comes in.
