Manchester United are set to resume playing once again soon, after a short hiatus caused by a Covid outbreak within their camp forced the Red Devils away from the pitch recently. As a result, the club had Premier League fixtures against Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion postponed. There were some calls for games to not take place at all amid the current circumstances but a decision has been made to go ahead with them for the time being.

It means that Manchester United will make the away trip to face Newcastle United on December 27 to mark their return to competitive football after a short break.

And there could be some positive news for the club, as a number of players are expected to make their return from injuries in the game against the Magpies.

As reported by Manchester Evening News, Raphael Varane is one of the players who could be available for the game against Newcastle United, having been back in training and his rehabilitation now all but complete. He is not the only player who might be back though as it is possible that the likes of Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial and Aaron Wan-Bissaka could be in contention as well.

Manchester United handed major Varane injury boost

Varane has been on the sidelines since picking up a hamstring injury in the Champions League fixture against Atalanta earlier in the season. And it is safe to say that his return, whenever it happens, would be a major boost for the club.

Cavani appears to have been struggling with a tendon injury, while Martial has missed a large chunk of game time this season as well.

Wan-Bissaka was carried off the pitch after a collision with the advertising boards in the recent Champions League fixture against Young Boys and it looks like he could be back in contention against Newcastle United also.
