Manchester United receive Ousmane Dembele update

Ousmane Dembele is a player who Manchester United have been linked with for a long time. When Barcelona signed him, he was viewed as the successor to Neymar at Camp Nou, after the Brazilian had left for Paris Saint-Germain. And while the Frenchman had shown tremendous potential during his time at Borussia Dortmund, it is safe to say that things have not worked out for him in Spain.

Dembele’s time at Barcelona has been marked by one injury after another. They have led to him spending the majority of his time out on the sidelines and have surely had a negative effect on his development as well.

His current deal with Barcelona runs out next summer though and if he was to leave as a free agent, Manchester United are one of the clubs who are expected to make a move. Newcastle United are also being linked with Dembele.

But it looks like Manchester United have been handed a blow in that regard. As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona are confident that they can extend Dembele’s contract with Xavi pushing to keep him:

It appears that Barcelona are confident that Dembele will extend his deal at Camp Nou. But nothing is set in stone yet and it remains to be seen what the future holds.

It must be said though that even if Manchester United were able to sign the Frenchman, it would come with a lot of risk.

The biggest worry about Dembele is the fact that he has not able to remain fit for a consistent length of time for years now. His talent and ability are unquestionable, but is he someone who would be able to compete with the physicality of the Premier League?

Let’s see what the future holds for Dembele. For the time being, it does not feel like a move to Manchester United is on the cards.
