Manchester United were expected to challenge for the Premier League title this season. It is safe to say that things have not turned out that way. The Red Devils made a very disappointing start to the campaign and ultimately decided to show Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the exit after nearly three years in the managerial hot seat. Ralf Rangnick has been brought in as the interim manager till the end of the season.

The target for Rangnick is expected to be to get this side back into the top four of the Premier League and anything else, whether a higher league finish or silverware, would be considered as a bonus.

Of course, his arrival is also a chance for several players, who were not getting a lot of playing time under the management of Solskjaer, to get back into the team. And some have already made an impression since the German coach’s arrival.

Alex Telles is one of them. He has come into the team in the absence of Luke Shaw, who has been out injured recently, and it is safe to say that the left-back has taken his chance with both hands, putting in some brilliant performances. But at the same time, he has given Rangnick a huge decision to make as well.

It is safe to say that there could be some genuine competition for the left-back spot at Manchester United once again.

Shaw was the undisputed starter last season with Telles struggling for minutes, but that might not be the case moving forward following the Brazilian’s recent performances.

It will be interesting to see who gets the nod when both are fit to play. And there is a case to be made for both. Who should Rangnick go with though as he looks to take Manchester United back into the top four?
